Like most organizations, Eastside depends on volunteers to be able to provide many of the opportunities and events we offer. Below is a list of specific volunteer needs that we currently have. However, please keep in mind that some of our activities have arisen because a volunteer walked in our door and offered their services. Please consider giving of your time to help others. The reward to you and those you help is priceless!

1.  Ivy Tech Lunches!

Eastside caters lunches out at Ivy Tech M-Th. We are recruiting volunteers to come in and help prepare, to take the food out to Ivy Tech, to sell at Ivy Tech & to come back and do clean up. Prep starts at 8am & clean up is usually done by 2pm. If you are able to volunteer for one or all of these tasks for one or all 4 days, please contact us for more information.

2. Community Garden Volunteer

Spring is just around the corner. Can you start plants at your home for our garden? When you shop for seeds for your garden, consider buying an extra pack for Eastside.  Once the ground has thawed, the garden will need to be tilled. Volunteering in Eastside's Community Garden benefits you, Eastside and your community. Enjoy fresh produce!Help Eastside have fresh produce to can, sell and to make healthy meals. We give away any excess produce.

Now recruiting people who can teach others to garden, can and make healthy meals. If you have any of these skills, please consider donating of your time to teach others. 

We are also currently looking for a greenhouse so that we can continue to offer fresh produce all year long. The garden also allows us to offer training opportunities.

3. Yellow Brick Road Booth Upkeep

Do you enjoy retail? Do you enjoy decorating? We may have just the opportunity for you! Eastside has a booth at "Yellow Brick Road" on State St. We need someone willing to come in on a regular basis to price items and then take them over to Yellow Brick Road. The booth also needs weekly attention to keep it looking fresh and neat.

4. Recycling Coordinator

Eastside recycles! Learn all about how much can be saved from the landfill by coming in weekly to sort our recyclables (paper and aluminum cans pre-sorted) and take in for us.

5. Building and Grounds Maintenance Volunteer

If you enjoy sprucing up areas through yard work, painting, sweeping, mopping, etc., Eastside Community Center welcomes you as a volunteer. You will reap the benefit of satisfaction in seeing a job well done.

6. Adult Tutors Needed

The McDowell Education Center is looking for new adult volunteers to tutor Adult Learners. Volunteers should have a real interest in helping adults become better readers and writers. Tutors will need to commit approximately 2 hours per week. The hours are very flexible and training will be provided prior to the tutoring sessions.
